Polocrosse

Polocrosse is a competitive and fast-paced game, played in teams of 3. It is a lot of fun for both horse and rider, and even the most nervous of horses often take to the game really well. The sport is suitable for all ages and abilities, and we see many nervous riders gain confidence through the game. Polocrosse is a very social discipline, everyone is friendly and welcoming, and we often run BBQ’s and lunches at our training throughout the summer.   We are all here to have fun and enjoy our horses, so we keep training and tournaments as stress free as possible.

Area 8 Polocrosse stands to introduce pony club members within area 8 to the sport, and to develop our existing players. All of our sessions are suitable for new players and horses, and our coaches are trained to introduce horses to the sport gently. You don’t need any special equipment to come along, area 8 provide sticks and balls to anyone who doesn’t have their own.

Our winter training venues vary as we try to make the training accessible to all of our members across area 8. The aim is that all of our members will have access to at least one training session a month within an hour of where they live. Through the summer we make use of our grass pitch in Copdock. We run monthly coached sessions, and biweekly evening chukkas here. At the start of the summer we run a training camp, which entails a day of training and a day of fun chukkas. This event is suitable for complete beginners and will qualify eligible players for Pony Club Championships.

With close ties to UK Polocrosse Association clubs across the country we access high quality training from top level players and coaches enabling our players to progress quickly in the sport. Summer 2022 we were fortunate enough to offer a training camp with Bruce Maclarty, the South African World Cup coach who led his nation to back to back victories. We aim to qualify a lot of our players for Pony Club Championships within their first year of playing, and many of our players have gone on to play nationally and internationally within a few years of first picking up a stick.

Area 8 polocrosse is linked closely with Saxons polocrosse club, allowing our players to access UKPA tournaments and training too. Many of our players parents have picked up a stick and joined in the fun through Saxons too. It really is a family oriented sport, at times seeing 3 generations playing together!

At Area 8 Polocrosse we offer something for everyone, whether you want to play competitively, or just for fun and enjoy the social aspects of polocrosse.
