Pony/Horse
Saddle – check stirrup leather stitching and correctly fitted.
Girth straps and girths – check for strap wear and worn stitching.
Tighten the girth before your child mounts and check again before the training starts.
Numnah – should be plain and of a dark colour without names on it. Branch logos are fine.
Stirrup size – too big is as bad as too small. You should be able to fit your finger between your child’s boot
and the edge of the stirrup. Always check when you buy new boots for your child.
Bridle
Bit – check the height of the bit in the pony’s mouth. If you are unsure ask your Coach to check.
Check the bridle has been put back together correctly after cleaning. Check all the buckles are done up and
if anything is twisted.
Noseband – check tightness and height.
Reins – check stitching and rubber for wear.
Martingale – must have properly adjusted stops. Neck straps must be worn if the pony does not wear a martingale.
Grass reins – must be fitted as per the PC rules
Boots
Check correctly fitted.
