Dressage is about showing the judge that you can get your pony to do what you want him to do, when you want him to do it.

You and your pony have to follow a set of instructions laid out in the dressage test.

A judge marks the test. They give you a mark out of ten for how well you carry out each instruction. At the end of the test the marks are added up and the winner is the horse and rider with the highest score.

If you are interested in competing on a team then you can aim for the Area Competition which is for Novice, Intermediate and Open level and leads to qualification to the Nationals for winning teams and individuals.  There is also a section for Grassroots riders with the top 4 teams gaining qualification to the Regional Finals at Rectory Farm – this is a good stepping stone for those looking to compete at the National Championships in the future.

We hold regular training rallies with instructor Melissa Gerrard leading up to team competition dates:

  • Area/Grassroots Qualifying Competition – Friday 23rd July 2021 (Old Berks PC hosting)
  • National Pony Club Championships – 16-22nd August 2021 (Offchurch Bury, Warwickshire)
  • Grassroots Regional Pony Club Championships – 28th-30th August 2021 (Rectory Farm, Cirencester)

The tests for all these can be found on the main PC website: Grassroots 2018Novice 2020Intermediate 2013 and Open 2020
