Our History

The East Kent Hunt branch of Pony Club started in 1933 and is part of Pony Club Area 11.

In the early days the instructors were all ex-military men and from small beginnings, the club grew to a membership of over 200 in the early 1990s. Our club now has a membership base of between 100 and 120 across all age ranges and is supported by experienced, qualified instructors and a dedicated team of volunteers both of past and present parents and members.

Club Successes

Individual successes from the club include Georgina Harland who won a Bronze Medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics in Modern Pentathlon having been World Champion in 2002 and European Champion in 2003.

The Prince Philip Games team got to the 2003 Horse of the Year Show at Birmingham and competed against 5 other teams for the whole week. In October 2016 East Kent returned to the Horse of the Year Show and this time won the Virbac 3D Worming Cup, the Prince Philip Cup and the Stable Cup thus completing an historic triple.

Tishy Green (Fleming) rode at Badminton as also did Rosie Bell (Clapham).

In 2009 Richard Felce rode for England in the under 16 Polocrosse team in Australia.

Olivia Maylam is a professional race horse trainer and Tom Cheesman and Rex Dingle are both jockeys.

Sorrell Klatzko is one of the very few members of The Pony Club to get her A Test with Honours.

Our President Mally Spens rode for Great Britain in the Show Jumping Teams in the early 1960s and still teaches our members.
