Stable management and pony care training is held all year, usually dismounted, good fun and a great way to make pony club friends.

Mini Achievement Badges – these are aimed at younger members training up to D+ level. They are smaller than the other badges and have a purple border. They are an introduction to the topics covered in the Achievement badges and can be a fun addition to rallies. There are 41 Mini Achievement Badges and once 14 are attained the Mini Gold Badge is awarded. Achievement Badges – these are aimed at junior members at D+ to C+ level. They have a navy blue border. There are 60 Achievement Badges, once 21 are attained the Gold Badge is awarded. Advanced Achievement Badges, 16 – these are for our senior members and cover topics required for C+ to A test. They have a gold border.

The Pony Club Training structure encourages members to take tests which enables them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The tests are taken at recommended ages and are designed with certain objectives in mind.

E TEST – The recommended minimum age is 4+.

D TEST – Candidates must be 8 years old or above and members are recommended to hold the Mini Road Rider Achievement Badge
Progressive Award Silver
D+ TEST -Candidates must be 10 years old or above on the test day and have passed the D Test.

C TEST – The Care Section and the Riding Section may be taken separately on different dates. Candidates must be 11 years old or above on the test day and have passed the D+ Test. Members are recommended to hold the Main Road Rider Achievement Badge or the BHS Ride Safe Test.

B TEST
B – HORSE & PONY CARE – Candidates must be at least 15 years old.
Candidates taking the B Horse & Pony Care Test should ideally hold their full C+ Test, but Members who hold only their C+ Test Horse & Pony Care may take the B Test Horse & Pony Care subject to approval by the Area Representative and DC / Centre Proprietor.
B TEST RIDING – Candidates must be at least 15 years old. You must have passed the C+ Test.
Lungeing test – minimum age 15 years
AH & B+ tests – minimum age 16 years
A Test – minimum age 17 years

COSTS – There will be a cost to the test days from C+ and above and training.
A Test – Since 2000 CFHS has had another two members passing the A test.
The Pony Club Quiz is a national annual inter-branch competition open to all Pony Club Members.

Teams of 4 must be made up of a combination of younger and older Members.
The quiz consists of up to 12 rounds of questions about equestrian and non-equestrian subjects.
The winner of the Area competitions qualify for the National Finals in April. All the topics now come under the Horsemanship banner so all dismounted training is linked

The Pony Club Horse & Pony Care is an annual inter-branch competition for Mini, Junior and Senior teams of 3 Pony Club Members. Mini – Teams to consist of three members aged 10 years and under on the 1st January of the competition year, with one member to be 8 years or under. Questions to be based on the Care section of the E, D and easier parts of the D+ Efficiency Tests.
Junior – Teams to consist of three members aged 13 years and under on the 1st January of the competition year, with one member to be 11 years or under. Questions to be based on the Care section of the D, D+, C and easier parts of the C+ Efficiency Tests.
Senior – Teams to consist of three members aged 25 years and under on the 1st January of the competition year, with one member to be 16 years or under. Questions to be based on the Care section of the C+, B and AH Efficiency Tests.
Teams make their way around different ‘stations’, each of which will comprise of a different theory or practical based topic. Ten minutes are spent at each ‘station’, during which time Members are asked a series of questions to be marked by the Assessor.
Dress should be appropriate to a working yard environment. Pony Club sweatshirts, shirt and tie, jodphurs, boots, gloves and hats are expected.
There will be 3 selection dates in April and May, followed by team training. You MUST attend at least one of the selection dates to be considered for the teams.
